GIGI ELIZABETH aka. KID AVOCADO
Background: University drop out, level 1000 sjw.
Location: Western Sydney.
What I do: Studied at the National Art School, Darlinghurst for 1 month before deferring earlier in the year to allocate more of my time to campaign against/shutting down the fossil fuel industry/big mining projects, but also for working and freelancing. I will probably go back to continue my Bachelor of Fine Arts or go into Social Work instead. I'm attempting to build a business/community around my art and have just started working on my online platforms. You can see more soon at kid-avocado.com or instagram.com/kid.avocado.
Things I love: Day trips, observing plants, consuming plants, anti-capitalism, pink velvet, my moody cat (mei).
Main mediums: Watercolour, collage materials (mostly just old national geographic mags), felt tip pens and sometimes acrylic.
About my art: My works often include subjects/people I have known, including myself. I pick out seemingly small scenarios from recent personal events and shine a light on the small wonders or growth we often experience but don't acknowledge or perhaps, realise. I love portraits. Starting out as a student of photography, I developed a passion for capturing human emotions and mood. I draw my friends at pivotal moments in our friendships to recreate the moments on paper through colour and pattern. I’m passionate about people and intersectionality, and fascinated by the intrinsic connections between all living and loving things. I think that will always be the driving force behind what I put on paper. Most people could probably relate to that.
