Let's Get Hysterical

  • The Melba Spiegeltent 35 Johnston Street Collingwood, VIC, 3066 Australia (map)

Are you sick of the Steve Prices of this world? Wanna raise a bit of cash for the organisations working hard to end violence against women? Hang out with your fellow femmos and watch an amazing film over a few drinks?

When the going gets tough, our feminist community activates (and throws impromptu parties). So while Pauline Hanson is on Q&A, we'll be revisiting the explosive documentary on Kathleen Hanna, The Punk Singer, in a snap fundraiser screening at the glorious Melba Speigeltent this Monday!

"The Punk Singer is a perfect storm. It is a love letter to Kathleen Hanna, to feminism, and to the fans, but it’s also just a damn good movie." - Jenni Miller

All proceeds from the door and 50% of DVD/zine sales go directly to Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria, Centre Against Sexual Assault and Shakti Migrant & Refugee Women’s Support Group, just some of the incredible organisations working hard to end violence against women. We'll screen a special video message from Van Badham and the film will be introduced by Karen Pickering. This event has been pulled together on the fly by the combined magic of Girls On Film Festival (GOFF), Cherchez la Femme (CLF) and Blow Up Cinema.

So come and drink, snuggle, shake your fist and be warmed by the story of a feminist icon, who bore the full brunt of male anger and reprisal, and reminded us that no matter how hard things get, the answer is always other women.
